A wedding cake plays a significant role at every wedding and it definitely pays off to make an effort. Even though the design is very important and should encapsulate the whole wedding theme, it should also taste just as good as it looks. Today a wedding cake can be just about any flavour.

If you are not sure which flavour would be the best option for your reception, check your menu and think what kind of cake would work well after the main course. If your main meal is rich and heavy, you should consider serving a lighter cake. Similarly, a rich chocolate cake is more appropriate in winter months then during summer when a refreshing dessert is more suitable.

To make sure that you have made the right decision, try the cake before you buy it and choose the one that you and your partner will enjoy. If you can’t pick only one flavour, you can even opt for cake with different flavours for each tier.

1. Rich Fruit Cake
According to a traditional etiquette, the top tier of a wedding cake should not be cut or served at the wedding, but preserved until the first anniversary. If you prefer a classical wedding and want to keep this tradition, fruit cake is the perfect choice. You can order a tasty, rich fruitcake with lush decorations or, alternatively, have only the top tier made from the fruit cake.

2. Choc Mud
Mouth-watering choc mud is a popular alternative to a traditional fruit cake. You can make a classical four tier cake white icing or a homemade version with adorable DIY decorations. It is best to serve it with something extra such as ice cream, chocolate sauce or cream and fresh berries.

3. Red Velvet
Red velvet cake gives plenty of design options with its decorative red and white colour combination, while its delicate cocoa flavour makes it an interesting alternative to both traditional fruit cake and rich chocolate cakes. You can even make an ombre red velvet cake to give it a modern twist.

4. Orange & Poppy seed
Its moist texture and refreshing citrus flavour makes orange and poppy seed cake one of the favourite choices for spring weddings. It goes well with tea and coffee so it is perfect for breakfast receptions or tea parties.

5. Coffee
If you want to serve something a little different at your wedding, coffee infused cake is a very sophisticated choice. Sweet and creamy mocha flavour is a wonderful inspiration for a wedding cake and it blends well with chocolate and cream.

6. Butterscotch
Scrumptious butterscotch makes a fantastic wedding cake flavour. Couples with more of a sweet tooth will love this flavour and there are plenty of options for decoration.

7. Carrot Cake
Rich carrot cake is a delicious dessert and is very popular at weddings. To make it extra scrumptious, you can fill it with yummy cream cheese and decorate with buttercream and vanilla frosting.
